The committee hosted an Anniversary Brunch in June for couples married at least 50 years; they served dinner at the Fall Harvest Festival; they welcomed new members with cake and coffee; and they continued to oversee these programs:
A sub-committee of the social ministry comittee is Outreach. Outreach concentrates on how we can reach out with the gospel to the community around our church. The philosophy is to provide opportunities for the congregation to serve. One example was participation in the CROP walk. Work is slated to begin in late May or early June 2001 for the Habitat for Humanity project.
Corporate Social Responsibility - Addresses issues of social responsibility for the ELCA and provides social/ethical investment criteria and counsel. Addresses corporations on a range of global and domestic issues through shareholder action and resolutions where appropriate. Develops church and coporation national and global dialogues on major corporate and economic issues.
Lutheran Office for Govermental Affairs - Witnesses for social justice on domestic and foreign policy issues facing the nation. Represents the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America's positions within the area of public debate. Educates, informs and enables effective interaction between the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and the federal government.
Lutheran Office for World Community - Represents the ELCA and the Lutheran World Federation at the United Nations. Advocates public views to the United Nations, related international organizations and governments. Monitors world community issues and United Nation discussions, recommending actions consistent with ELCA policy. Assists ELCA members, congregations, synods, regions, and institutions and agencies of the church to understand and become involved in world community issues.
