Pastor John Reil
Message for May 2009
In Sundays and Seasons, the worship planning guide from Augsburg Publishing, for Sunday, April 19, 2009, there was an article discussing the differences between “doubt” and “unbelief.” In part, it said, “Because we are human and are limited in what we can know, some degree of doubt is acceptable. Antidotes to doubt might include writing out your doubts, praying through them, or talking them through with trusted friends. Doubt is not an enemy of faith.”
To doubt is to question the truth or reality of something.
Unbelief is the stubborn refusal to believe something.
Doubt is choosing what
to believe.
Unbelief is choosing not
to believe.
Doubt is I can’t.
Unbelief is I won’t.
Bible passages dealing with doubt:
(Uncertainty – perplexed)
Matthew 14:31
Mark 11:23
John 20:27
(Disobedient – unfaithful)
2 Corinthians 4:4
Matthew 17:17
Luke 9:41
See what you can find and think about in any Bible with a
concordance – a list of words and their usage in the various
books of the
Bible.
