Stitching Angels One Year Anniversary! What an amazing year! Stitching Angels began our ministry in January 2009. By the middle of March, the members had created 225 items (hats, booties, mittens, blankets, kimonos, sweaters, and burial gowns for both boys and girls) for the babies in the NICU and Maternity Units. We had our first Blessing of the Garments before the items were delivered to local hospitals. By October’s Blessing of the Garments, we had another 201 baby items. All of these items were delivered to Lower Bucks Hospital, St. Mary Hospital, and Abington Memorial Hospital. Another 46 baby items in November and December brought the total for the year to 472 knit, crocheted and sewn items. In addition, three prayer shawls were crocheted and presented to members of our congregation. An average of five to eight members meet each Thursday at 7pm at Panera Bread on US Route 1, Langhorne, in the Community Room. Our poster lets everyone who walks by know what we are about. One man walked in and thanked us for the baby hats and blankets his wife had received for their twins born at St. Mary Hospital. Others come in to look at the items we have made, which are shown on the table along with the yarn and instruction booklets. An employee who worked at a name brand yarn factory in the area brought us a large donation of beautiful yarn. There are other members of our congregation who cannot make the meeting but still contribute by making their items at home. To celebrate our first anniversary, eight members plus two husbands enjoyed dinner at Panera before the start of our regular meeting. We welcome all, whether you attend every week or when you can make it. |
