Awake, Awake and Greet the
New Morn ----- WOV #633
Marty Haugen text and music
for GIA Publications, Inc. c. 1983
" Awake! Awake, and greet
the new morn, For angels herald its dawning.
Sing out your joy, for soon
he is born, Behold! The Child of our longing.
Come as a baby weak and poor,
To bring all hearts together,
He opens wide the heavenly
door and Lives now inside us forever."
Dear Sisters in Christ,
As the Christmas season comes to a close,
and Epiphany is upon us, let us reflect on the events in our lives
during the past few weeks. We have all experienced some special holiday
festivities and gatherings with families and friends. Most of us participated
in special Christmas services to remember the birth of Jesus our savior
as a human baby long ago in Bethlehem. The activities of the season
make it challenging for us to find some quiet time to reflect on what
the Christmas story means to us personally.
I urge you to set aside some time now to
think about what the birth and life of Jesus the Christ means to you.
How does being in relationship with God as expressed in Jesus change
your life? How are you set apart and marked with the seal of this
Christ?
We look to Marty Haugen's hymn at the top
of this page and think of what it means that this baby Jesus was able
to bring hearts together, open heaven's door, and now lives inside
us continually and forever. WE are blesses by being in an everlasting
relationship of love and grace with God and with each other. WE are
able to communicate our love through prayer, praises, thanksgivings
and requests for ourselves and for others according to their needs.
We are called to this ministry, and it is a joy to be joined in this.
May God continue to bless you as we walk
through Epiphany together and follow the light of Jesus, our Light.
I end in peace and love as your sister in Christ, Susan Nalle+
